DESCRIPTION
Bulbophyllum antenniferum (Lindl.) Rchb.f.
Type: Philippines, Cuming s.n. (n.v.) Loosely clustered epiphyte. Rhizom creeping, 2-4mm diam., sections between pseudobulbs 1.2-2 cm long, bracts little persistent. Pseudobulbs distinct, ovoid, 1-3.5 y 0.5-1.5 cm. Leaf: petiole 0.6-2.5 cm long; blade elliptic to obovate, 4.8-13 x 1.8-4 cm, l/w 2.4-4.4; rounded to obtuse. Inflorescence 13-23 cm long, 1-flowered. Peduncle 5.5-13 cm long, bracts c. 4. Floral bracts 10-17 mm long, acute. Flowers: Pedicel and ovary 32-40 mm long. Median sepal recurved at base, then incurved, ovate and tapering towards the lip, 42-83 x 13.5-19 mm, l/w 3.1-4.3; acute, margins glabrous, adaxial surface finely hirsute, abaxial glabrous. Lateral sepals loosely adherent along their lower and/or upper margins except in the basal part, as the median but recurved, oblique, with a short, wide claw, 36-62 x 6.2-10 mm, l/w 4.6-6.2; surface glabrous. Petals porrect, ovate, 14-17 x 2.5-3.2 mm, l/w 4.6-7 including a 6.5-10.8 mm ling cauda; tip with an approx. Globose, hirsute to muricate appendage up to 0.4 mm across; glabrous. Lip recurved approx. Halfway, subtriangular and slightly constricted approx. Halfway along its lengh, 4-5 x 2.2-2.9 mm, l/w 1.6-2; rounded, margins minutely hirsute towards the apex; adaxially slightly convex near the base, with a shallow median depression, often bordered by two inconspicuous, rounded ridges, approx. Halfway along its lengh, apical part slightly convex again, surface glabrous towards the base but finely from the depression onwards; abaxially with a medin ridge in the basal 2/3 with an approx. Flat crest, slightly convex towards the tip, surface glabrous. Column 3-4.5 mm long. Stelidia porrect, triangular, 0.5-0.8 mm long, acute, with an antrorse, triangular, obtuse to acute tooth along the upper margins, approx. Halfway, and a small, patent, deltoid, rounded to obtuse wing along the lower margin. Colours: Median sepals greenish, often green towards the tip and near the base, varously suffused with dark purple, in the basal part usually with some minute translucent 'windows' in between the reticulate venation. Lateral sepals creamy white to pale greenish, often green towards the tip and near the base, variously suffused with purplish. Petals pale translucent greenish with green veins and margins, the latter often (partly) stained with purple; appendage purple. Lip cramy white, greenish towards the base, with purple blotches, sometimes violet towards the tip. Column white, spotted with purple. |
